PHOENIX GRAFT WORKSHOP
John Carroll has expressed an interest in a phoenix graft workshop. I am checking around to see if I can locate any shimpaku whips. Last year some of the local nursuries had some but I haven`t seen any this year. If anyone else is interested please contact me.    Tom Mounce

SUMMER HAS ARRIVED
When I wrote the article for last months newsletter I spoke about how cool a summer we had been having, but what a difference a couple of weeks make. These hot days and warm nights are great for Tropicals. This time of year, the Tropicals are the only trees I still fertilize once a week. Last Sunday I totally defoliated a very large Ficus Retusa and today [Friday] it has buds popping out everywhere. While the tree was nude, I removed all unwanted branches and wired the tree. My kids thought I was crazy and killed the tree, but I explained that by doing this and putting the tree in full sun, that the next batch of leaves will be half the size of the old leaves. I just noticed that a couple of Buttonwoods are starting to flower. I wanted to cut these back but this is the first year they have flowered. I think I`ll check out the flowers and then cut them back.    Tom Mounce
