2001
| JANUARY
There are no Masters scheduled. If there is enough interest we will have a wiring session on Saturday the 27th. Please let me know at the January meeting. FEBRUARY Lindsay Shiba Saturday Feb. 17th. 1-5 Civic Garden Center MARCH Marty Schmalenburg Saturday March 17th. 1-5 Civic Garden Center In-House Grove Workshop. This workshop will probably take place on the last Sat. in March. It will be limited to 12 people. Material will be provided, with tree selections being Trident Maples, Jap. Maples, Korean Hornbeams, or Beech. APRIL Boon Manakitivipart No time scheduled yet.
I just wanted to let everyone know that, again, our club has put together an All-Star line up of Masters. I encourage you to sign up for workshops early. The Society will try to have multiple workshops when possible. If you sign up for a workshop, please make sure you attend or call 2 weeks in advance to cancel. I will call everyone a week before the workshop to remind you of the time and location. If you are having trouble finding material to work on, try The Landscape Supply Co., on Rt. 18 near the Florence Mall. They are open during the week until 5:00. All of the container stock is in poly houses, so you are out of the weather while looking for your next creation. Normally they have a good selection of Junipers. In November I picked up a workshop juniper that was labeled a Blue "Sargent" Juniper. It has a lot of tight scale foilage[mature growth]and has a nice blue-green color. When I got the tree home I gave it a foliar feeding of fish emulsion which made the color even better. They also have a large selection of balled and burlaped trees. I think that if you can, it is wise to keep a few trees on hand for upcoming workshops. This way you don`t come down to the day before the workshop and spend it out scouring the nurseries for material, as a few of us have done in the past. Also, there is no rule that says you cannot work on the same tree with different Masters. I have a few trees that I have worked on twice and I think they turned out better the second time around. I will have sign-up sheets at the meeting for the next 2 or 3 workshops. Anyone that has any questions can call me or send me an
