WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE WORLD OF BONSAI

If you’re going to be traveling this summer, you may be interested in visiting some of the shows and events happening at your destination. Here is a calendar of events taking place in the U.S.

June 5-6, 1999

Reno, Nevada

Yukiyama Bonsai Kai

The annual show is held at the Sierra Arts Foundation, 200 Flints Street, from 1 am to 4 pm, with demonstrations from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm daily by Boon Manakitivipart. Demonstration trees will be raffled. For information, call 775-825-1858, or e-mail at ptflynn@aci.net.

June 5-6, 1999

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Central Oklahoma Bonsai Society

This free event will be held at the Will Rogers Exhibition Building at 3400 NW 36th St. Hours are 1 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and Noon to 5 pm on Sunday. There will be deomnstrations on Saturday and Sunday. Sales Area, an Exhibit of 90-125 Bonsai, educational videos, and members to answer questions.

June 12-13

Newark, Ohio

Ohio Regional Bonsai Societies

An exhibit, lectures and sales area are scheduled at the Dawes Arboretum, 7770 Jacksonville Road, S.E., Noon to 7 pm on Saturday and 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday

June 12-13

Madison, Wisconsin

The Badger Bonsai Society

The 6th annual bonsai show will be held at Olbrich Gardens, 3330 Atwood Avenue, from 9 am to 4 pm each day. Two demonstrations will be held each day at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm by local artists. Vendor area and members to answer questions. Admission fee, parking is free. E-mail at bobonsai@exepc.com

June 18-21, 1999

Redlands, California

California Saikei

The second annual California Saikei Show will take place at the San Bernardino County Museum Fisk Auditorium. Admission fee, free parking. For further information, call 1-909-899-1219.

June 19-20, 1999

Denver, Colorado

The Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society

The thirtieth annual show and exhibition is scheduled from 9 am to 5 pm on the 19th and 20th. It will be held at the Botanical Garden, 1005 York Street. The show and parking will be free with paid admission to the Botanical Garden. There will be three demonstrations daily and a vendor area. For further information, e-mail at Bestavrin@aol.com.

June 20, 1999

Yakima, Washington

Yakima Valley Bonsai Society

The annual Fathers’ Days exhibit will be held at the Jewitt Interpretive Center at the Yakima Arena Arboretum, 1404 Arboretum Drive, and feature forest-style bonsai. You can call the arboretum for additional information at 1-509-AH-TREES.

June 30-July 4, 1999

Portland, Oregon

Bonsai Clubs International &

The Bonsai Society of Portland

The 1999 BCI Convention will be held in Portland, Oregon, at the Double Tree Hotel, Lloyd Center. Featured artists are: Charlie Anderson, Dave DeGroot, Masahiro Furukawa, Joe Harris, Kunio Kubayashi, Roy Nagatoshi, Dan Robinson, Suthin Sukosolvisit, Bill Valvanis and Frank Heidt. There will be tour packages that include the Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection and Blandan Bonsai Gardens.
